Krampus is here to punish
The figure of Krampus originates from Alpine countries such as Austria and Bavaria. It first appeared in 16th century writing and was described as the “half-goat, half-demon companion of Saint Nicholas” (a similar tradition can be found in Scandinavian countries). The name 'Krampus' has its roots in Middle High German for claw or hook - an indication of how this character can grab naughty children if they are not well behaved enough for Santa Claus's tastes. But who wants to be "good" anyway?
